I use Evernote almost everyday. If you are not familiar with Evernote, iTune describes it as, “an easy-to-use, free app that helps you remember everything across all of the devices you use. Stay organized, save your ideas and improve productivity. Evernote lets you take notes, capture photos, create to-do lists, record voice reminders–and makes these notes completely searchable, whether you are at home, at work, or on the go.”
Here are 10 reasons I love and use Evernote nearly everyday!
Illustration Data Bank: Create a notebook called “Illustrations” and add notes with your stories; funny, dramatic, thought provoking, inter actives elements, etc. and tag each note with a topic or several topics. The tagging and searching features are slick and fast! Check out this post I wrote on using Evernote as an illustration database for teaching.
Email Ideas and Notes: If you want to dump a link to a webpage, an idea, or a photo to your Evernote account you can via your personal Evernote email address. Your address is located under Settings in Evernote Web. I added my email address to my contacts list so it is ready to go. Check out this post I wrote on emailing content to Evernote.
Codes: Ok…probably not the smartest place to put serial numbers and certain passwords (I don’t suggest you put anything in there that will lead to money loss or identity theft) but as I said above, searching features are slick and fast. If I need to remember a software’s serial number to install or reinstall I got it in Evernote.
Easier Than a Folder Filled With Work Documents: I know, I could use Google Docs but Evernote is better for what I am doing. I have been pasting lessons in a notebook (searchable), I write blog posts in here, my Group Magazine articles, dumping leadership ideas, thoughts for parents, etc. One location…every note.
In the Cloud: It stores all the info in the cloud. If my hard-drive fails I will not lose my content, it will be save…In the Cloud!
All The Apps: I love that this app is available across all of the devices I use and it is a web app too…that’s great in case I need to access my content from a computer at a hotel, library, or a friends house.
Mind Dumping: This is a great place to mind dump. Get it all off your mind and sift through it later. I have a folder called SORT. I put whatever is on my mind in there, I even email ideas directly to that folder.
I Love Elephants: Seriously…I love elephants, they are gargantuan. I also like the hippopotamus, rhinoceros, and certain monkeys.
Integration: The app is versatile with the content you can upload to a notebook, voice notes, images (take a picture of where you parked at the airport), hand write notes and take a pic and email it to your account, attachments, screen shots, etc.
It is FREE: You can pay an annual fee to get a little more space and security but I have found the 60mb more than enough. It does not sound like a lot but you are basically uploading text. While I like the voice note and image integration I do not use it much because I have limited space.
What am I missing? Why are yo using Evernote? What is your favorite feature?
