I wrote about Unfiltered Magazine last week and told you that a years subscription for $8 was a great deal. I WAS WRONG! Today and today only you can get a one year subscription for ONLY FIVE DOLLARS!!! Use this link to take advantage of this one time offer! CLICK HERE!
March is right around the corner and I am excited for the Simply Youth Ministry Conference (SYMC) launch! If you are looking for a relational and relaxed environment to get some training and make connections with other like minded youth workers this is the conference for you.
I am eager to step away from the office for a few days, to gathering with old friends, and attend learning tracks and workshops. Here are 5 of the workshops I am looking forward to attending. Ok…two of them are sessions I am teaching, but don’t you want to come to the workshop of a guy who believe in the product he is presenting? I work hard to make everything doable and practical…and there are usually some really cool give-a-ways! I am eager to sit in on Jake’s session and learn better management systems, this session is a must fo me. Reza is a great guy and a solid leader, while his workshop is not on the topic of tech I know I will walk out with some solid content. I actually won’t attend Danette’s workshop (the last of the list below), but I wanted to highlight it knowing a lot of Simply Youth Ministry Network blogs readers are volunteers. If you are a volunteer or are bringing volunteers from your team this is a workshop to consider, Danette will host a great session! I grabbed a snapshop form the SYMC site, check out the descriptions…they may hit the top of your list like they did mine.
I am excited about this BRAND NEW project from Group called Unfiltered Magazine. You do not have to be a youth worker to enjoy Unfiltered but if you are I think it will be one of those things that you say, “Wow, this is meeting me where I am at” or “This is mentoring me and ministering to me where other resources have not quite reached.”
Each issue holds a host of great stories and I am thrilled they asked the Early family (That’s ME!) to be involved. Our story in this premiere issue is not all that unique but it is one we have never heard because it is just not a topic people like talking about and it rarely comes up in conversation.
Unfiltered is the first-ever magazine designed to help you thrive in life…outside the church walls. Real stories by real youth workers tackling issues of the heart, our healthy, family, money, and…well, the list of things that will minister goes on and on.
If you buy now you can save 50%. It’s $8 and is only delivered digitally. If you have an iPad get the app, if you do not have one that is ok too, when you subscribe you can read the digital magazine from any computer. This is a must since there are high quality video companions for many of the stories.
Unfilterd…Thanks for letting my family share our story.
Back in September I shared about a mild diet/exercise/lifestyle change adventure thing I would be on until Thanksgiving…you can read about it here. I just wanted to follow up and say it went well and the technology I used was super encouraging and helpful.
My favorite helpers were my Fitbit monitor, my Aria scale, and watching my progress with my free fitbit.com account (and I should add in the elliptical I used at the YMCA that had an iPhone adapter so I could watch Netflix while elliptisizing) . States were fun to watch and helped keep me on track. I know there are differences between pounds and inches, I never let myself get discouraged when things did not happen fast but the good news was things happend. I lost 20 pounds from September to Thanksgiving…YAHOO!
Hopefully some of the these tools could be a help to you if you are thinking about taking the plunge into watching your diet and moving away from the computer desk. The sedentary lifestyle ministry professional lead can be trouble for the waistline and the chins. Christmas is around the corner, if you are a hard person to shop for, fitbit just can out with a couple new models and their wifi scale is pretty cool, even of your not looking to lose weight…these could be good gift ideas.
Did you know there is a feature in your iPhone and iPad that will auto complete a specific text entry for you, all you need to do is teaching it a shortcut. Things I type a lot like email addresses, my home address, phone numbers, etc can be auto entered by creating a shortcut in my iOS device. I am not talking about auto correct but a feature called “shortcuts.” You can find this under Settings>General>Keyboard>Shortcuts…just hit the “+” and start creating. If your email address is something like “the.Super.Duper.Youth.Pastor@Churchname.com” all you need to do it train your phone to type that out every time you type “tsd.” This is one of those, “Wow, I am glad this is a feature” features. Check it out!
Now that is it the day after Thanksgiving I can share some of my Christmas stash. This song was handed to me several years ago and a few years ago I saw this video and just knew I needed to create a countdown clock! This is perfect for an upcoming Christmas party or just to launch your next youth service.
